Baring all no way to win friends

THE NAKED truth was presented to a Maryborough court this week after a Tiaro resident was exposed to a little too much.

Police were called to a Mayne Street home at 6am on January 7 after the occupant became impatient with a naked neighbour on the back veranda.

Michael John Hamilton was found on a footpath a short distance away – still naked apart from a small towel wrapped around his torso.

“It was clear he was intoxicated. His genitals were exposed in full view of the highway traffic,” prosecutor Sergeant Michael Quirk told the Maryborough Magistrates Court.

Hamilton was charged with public nuisance and trespassing but his antics didn’t stop there.

On January 27 he caused a scene at a Tiaro service station.

He ranted and raved, abused staff and customers and then stood in the middle of the Bruce Highway after being thrown out of the shop. The court heard Hamilton had an alcohol problem and was drunk on both occasions.

Adding to his anxiety, Hamilton said, was an incorrect dosage of prescription medication.

“We all get anxious but we don’t just throw a towel on and walk around in the nuddy,” Magistrate John Smith said.

“The court is sick of seeing you and the people of Tiaro must be sick of your behaviour.

“People won’t tolerate you walking around on their land – someone is going to take it into their own hands.”

He told Hamilton to get his act together and fined him $1600.
