Bay charity ride reaps rewards

IT’S NOT every day one sees the grim reaper riding a bike along the Esplanade.

But on Saturday the grim reaper did just that as riders lined up to raise money for Meals on Wheels at the Wheels 4 Meals Fun Ride.

Several of the riders got into the spirit of Halloween by donning creative costumes, and with good reason, organiser Matthew Poole said.

A prize for best costume was awarded at the end of the ride.

The riders started from The Gables at Point Vernon and made their way along the Esplanade to Dayman Park, Urangan, where a sausage sizzle and entertainment was waiting to greet them.

Kayla Baldwin, 12, from Star of the Sea, said she had gotten a flier at school and decided that participating in the cycle would be “a bit of fun”.

Several grandparents also brought their grandchildren along.

Greg Richardson took part with his grandson, Riley, 3, securely strapped on to the bike. Riley’s mum, Melissa Evans, also took part in the ride.

The money raised would go towards helping Hervey Bay Meals on Wheels buy equipment for their new food preparation site, Mr Poole said.
