Australia's best junior athletes descend on Hervey Bay
THE nation's best junior triathletes will electrify Charlton Esplanade at the School Sport Australia Triathlon Championships today.
The event will feature about 200 student athletes from across the country, many of whom will visit Fraser Coast for the first time.
It is those first-time visitors Fraser Coast Regional Council believes are most beneficial to the region, Cr Darren Everard said.
"They can't believe how welcoming the community has been and what we've rolled out for them," CrEverard said.
"It is a hard one to put a dollar value on. The value is more the people who come and have a good time and when they go away they tell their friends, it's more the add-on value."
School Sport Australia CEO Brad Allen said SSA was "enormously proud" to host the championships at the Bay.
"(The) weather is superb, children and parents are all excited about the opportunity, and without the support of regional community we wouldn't be here," MrAllen said.
The first race is scheduled to start at 6.30am.
Detours will be in place.
