Bay man to front court 23 years on

A HERVEY Bay man charged with being an accessory to the 1987 murder of a Bundaberg taxi driver will face committal proceedings in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court in April or May.

Anthony Bruce Beer, 45, was charged with being an accessory after the fact, robbery with violence, car theft and wilful damage.

The charges relate to the murder of Bryan Hodgkinson on September 10, 23 years ago.

Beer’s case was mentioned in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court late last week.

Defence solicitor Mary Buchanan asked for Beer’s hearing to be set for a date in August but Magistrate Jennifer Batts told Ms Buchanan the three-day hearing would proceed in April or May.

“When the court has the time available I’m not prepared to set it in August or September,” Ms Batts said.

The magistrate adjourned the case for mention on February 19.
