Bay woman dies in highway smash
A POINT Vernon woman has died after an accident close to the notorious Cooroy to Curra stretch of the Bruce Highway.
A 47-year-old woman died on the side of the highway after her car crashed into a truck south of Tiaro on Monday night.
The sedan smashed into the prime mover one kilometre south of Tahiti Road about 6pm.
The woman was the sole occupant of the car. She was travelling south on the Bruce Highway and the truck was travelling north but police were unable to confirm if the crash was a head-on collision.
Maryborough fire and ambulance crews attended the crash but the woman had died by the time paramedics arrived at the scene.
The Bruce Highway was closed for a short time and traffic diverted around the crash site.
A police spokesperson said the crash had been ruled as “out of scope” and that the death would not be included in the state's road toll, meaning the crash may have been intentional.
Police said they did not expect the name of the dead woman to be released.
