Be ready for storm season
POLICE and emergency services are urging people to be storm-ready this summer, with a heavy wet season expected for the Fraser Coast.
Preparation is the message police and SES services are enforcing, with authorities warning that ignorance in storm season can be dangerous.
Maryborough police disaster management officer Senior Sergeant Paul Behne said education was important coming into storm season.
"We want people to be aware of the risks during storm season," Snr Sgt Behne said.
"There are a lot of things people don't consider, when it comes to the wet season.
"So we encourage people to educate themselves, by accessing resources online."
Snr Sgt Behne said locals should also be familiar with the Fraser Coast Emergency Action Guide.
"It's a great resource in regards to disaster management.
"Every household should have one," he said.
Fraser Coast SES area director Rai Whitten said simple steps could be adopted from the guide to make homes storm ready this season.
"Cleaning out your gutters is one of the best things you can do before storm season," Mr Whitten said.
"Preparation is the best defence against storm season."
