Bears strive for future successes

AUSSIE RULES: The future growth of Maryborough Bears AFL Club will be the key to ensuring players stick together for the rest of the AFL Wide Bay season.

Steve Marsh stepped into the role of president midway through the year.

The Bears host Bay Power in the seniors competition, and the players who wear the Maryborough strip won't take a backward step as they chase their first win of 2018.

"We're very limited with numbers, we're scratching together every week but injuries are probably the biggest problem,” Marsh said.

"It's important to keep those teams on the field. It was a goal we set ourselves this year.

"(Last week's forfeit) was a once-off. There were five blokes in basketball grand finals and we had a few injuries.”

First bounce is at 3pm.

The under-14s enjoyed a big win against Brothers last week and Marsh said coach Michael Bitters had done a fantastic job with young Bears team.
