Blackout in Maryborough CBD

POWER has been partially restored to businesses after Maryborough's CBD was thrown into darkness about 10am after an outage shut off electricity to the city's heart.

Traffic lights on Ellena, Kent, Bazaar, Alice, Adelaide and Richmond Sts were affected by the blackout and police were directing traffic through busy intersections.

Ergon Energy spokesman Rod Rehbein said the outage was believed to be caused by a power line which was down on the corner of March and Ellena Sts.

"We estimate about 500 businesses and homes are without power," he said.

"Crews are currently working to restore power and we are hoping to have the electricity back on soon."
