Bleeding good battle heats up on Coast

THE boys and girls in blue have set a cracking pace, the firies have well and truly turned up the heat – but will our local ambos be able to match it?

That’s the question on everyone’s lips at the Maryborough and Hervey Bay Red Cross Blood Service centres this week following a spirited start of the inaugural Battle of the Services challenge.

Liaison officer Duncan Birt said the service was hoping friendly rivalry between the police, firies, ambos and everyone in the Department of Community Safety would result in plenty of blood being collected over the next few months.

He said that as well as going towards the Battle of the Services challenge, all blood donations would go towards the Bloodislow Cup tally which this week saw Maryborough move even further ahead.

“This challenge is an ideal opportunity to identify potential plasma donors.

“Plasma is the yellow coloured part of the blood that is extremely valuable as it is used to make 13 different life saving products needed every single day.”
