Boltons Furniture closure a shock to Facebook readers

THE closure of iconic Maryborough business Boltons Furniture has been met with disbelief by the residents of the Fraser Coast.

Responding to a post on the Chronicle's Facebook page, several commenters said the loss of the business, which had operated in Maryborough for 80 years, reinforced how important it was to shop local and support Fraser Coast businesses.

"Please start supporting local," Dell Isdale wrote.

"We have everything we need in Maryborough. Stop complaining that the Bay gets everything, but then go there for Christmas shopping, a night out etc. Spend your money here ... us business owners need your custom."

"Sad and such an iconic business name of the Wide Bay. And losing one job or one business is devastating for the people and to the other businesses' linkages," Elaine Lewthwaite wrote.
