Book review: The Toe Tag Quintet

BOOK: The Toe Tag Quintet
Author: Matthew Condon
Publisher: Vintage Aust (Random House)
RRP: $27.95

THIS book is composed of five novellas which glide effortlessly into each other.

They were originally published as serials in The Courier Mail.

I found them reminiscent of the TV series Columbo.

The book charts the retirement of an ex-Sydney detective on the Gold Coast in Queensland.

His past has an uncanny way of interfering with his leisure pursuits.

This unnamed detective has some bizarre adventures in jalopies, libraries and caravan parks.

He doggedly solves murders, past and present, accompanied constantly by misadventure.

It is full of action, wit, suspense and cynicism.
