Police say showgrounds safe after bomb threat

POLICE have declared Boonah Showgrounds safe after a bomb threat was reported earlier today.

It is reported that a 67-year-old man drove onto the site at about 8.30am this morning and threatened to detonate an explosive.

The police bomb squad cordoned off the showgrounds on Melbourne St as a result.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Police Service confirmed the threat was reported by a Boonah resident and said the site was declared safe at about 2pm with no suspicious devices found.

"We've determined there is nothing to be alarmed about," the spokesperson said.

Police are yet to confirm whether the incident was a hoax.
