YOUR STORY: Bowlers thanked for ongoing support for MS
THE Hervey Bay and Maryborough Multiple Sclerosis Support Group is extremely grateful to the Urangan Bowls Club Pier Mufti Group for their ongoing support of our club.
Each year at the Pier Mufti's Christmas dinner they give two $500 donations to worthy charities and for many years MS has always been the beneficiary of this very generous gesture.
The money is forwarded to the Queensland MS Society for research into a cure for MS which affects approximately 25,000 Australians of all ages in varying ways - some with major disability and mobility problems to others who can still lead a normal life with modern medication.
There is no cure for MS but there have been many advances to slow its progress and a lot of research is being put into stem cell treatment.
The second recipient of the $500 was the Hervey Bay Youth Mentoring Group both very worthy causes of their generosity.
We both sincerely thank the Urangan Pier Mufti Bowlers for their wonderful gesture at this joyous time of the year and also to Jean Crocker and her team for the lovely Christmas dinner enjoyed by several hundred people.
It is good to hear of such acts of giving and kindness that sadly often go unrecognised in the world we live in today.
