Boxers pack plenty of punch with our champ

FRIDAY the 13th could prove to be unlucky one for those game enough to step into the ring against Jarrod Fletcher and the bunch of boxers he trains with.

Fletcher trains at Brisbane's Fortitude Boxing stadium but Hervey Bay's finest isn't the only talented fighter to go through his paces there ahead of the Friday the 13th Thriller at the Brisbane Convention Centre next month.

Four Olympians will appear on the card which will feature Fletcher's fourth professional bout.

Fletcher, who is training under the watchful eye of one of Australia's most accomplished boxing trainers, Steve Deller, has been sparring with one of them, Gerard O'Mahony.

Adam Forsyth, Brad Pitt and Todd Kidd are the other Olympians shaping up well for the big fight night.

You can also throw the ever improving and hard as nails James Giltrow into the mix.

He's preparing for his shot at winning the Queensland welterweight title.

Fletcher said he'd never seen so much talent in one place at anytime during his career.

“It's amazing - there is quality everywhere you turn,” Fletcher said.

“The sparring has been first rate and I couldn't have asked for anything better.”

Fletcher's teainer Steve Deller agreed.

“You can be sure that all of these young blokes will be at the forefront of professional boxing in Australia over the next few years,” Deller said.

“I haven't seen boxing this strong for many years.”
