UPDATE: Woman talks of Channon St bomb scare

UPDATE: A BOMB scare, believed to be at least the second this week, forced the evacuation of offices, including that of Gympie MP Tony Perrett this morning.

Evacuated staff confirmed that Mr Perrett and his workers were not the targets of the prank call, which was received about 11.35am, according to police.

"It was a bit scary," one of the evacuated workers admitted.

"I was in the building at the time. We were told to evacuate straight away.

"I said my son was upstairs. I ran and got him and told the others on the first flood to evacuate."

Staff gathered in Alfred St at the rear of the Channon St building.

Police were quickly on the scene and kept people away from the area.

"We were standing there for an hour and then got permission to leave.

"However one of the policemen had to check out our car.

"He checked the glove box, under the seats and even under the car.

"This made an interesting morning," she said.

Police investigations are continuing.

EARLIER: STAFF at an office block in the heart of Gympie have been evacuated following a bomb scare just before midday today.

The bomb threat was made to one of several businesses accommodated at 58 Channon St, which also accommodates the offices of Gympie MP Tony Perrett.

Police are currently at the scene and all staff have been evacuated.

Other businesses housed there are Wesley Mission, Suncare Community Services, Australian Hearing and Busy at Work employment agency.
