BREAKING: Two Australian students shot in New Orleans

Two young Australian tourists were shot early Tuesday morning after venturing to the West Bank for drugs, the New Orleans Advocate reports.

It's been reported that the men, aged 21 and 23, took a taxi to meet with a drug dealer about 4.15am,

At some point during the interaction, both men sustained gunshot wounds.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison confirmed that both men were tourists.

He said one man was shot in the stomach, and the other in the chest.

Police said both were listed in stable condition at an area hospital.

Fairfax media reports the students are from Curtin University in Western Australia.
