Bright spark forges ahead in industry

CAIRNS resident Jessica Meek is blazing an impressive trail in the local building and construction industry.

Jessica took home the Construction Female of the Year at the 2011 Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) Excellence Awards, and one year on her career has gone from strength to strength.

Having finished her electrical apprenticeship last year, Jessica is now the Health and Safety, Rehabilitation and Training Coordinator at Babinda Electrics.

Jessica manages the safety procedures for the company with in-house and onsite training for 150 staff, maintenance of equipment and assisting with the transition of injured workers returning to the company.

Jessica said her CSQ Excellence Award provided a great confidence boost after completing her apprenticeship and said she is continually reminded that her contribution to the local industry is not insignificant.

"Winning the award gave me added motivation to continue working my way up in the construction industry and tackle new challenges," she said.

"It was rewarding to be recognised for my hard work, especially given the level of talent in the industry here in Cairns as well as across the state."

The panel who judged Jessica's award category were greatly impressed with her drive to succeed in the construction industry, noting her achievements in Occupational Health and Safety initiatives and enrolment in a Diploma of Project Management.

All of industry can support this year's rising stars and celebrate top achievers like Jessica, while taking advantage of great networking opportunities with peers at the 2012 CSQ Excellence Awards.

The awards will be presented at a gala dinner at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday, November 9.

Tickets are $130 incl. GST or $1200 incl.

GST for a table of 10.
