Brolga has a new boss
THE BROLGA has a new boss – and she’s chuffed.
Cr Linda Harris has been appointed chairman of the Maryborough-based entertainment and convention centre while former chair Cr Barb Hovard remains on the board.
“I’m looking forward to this new role,” Ms Harris said yesterday.
“I’ve been on the Brolga board since 2008 and although we’ve had to meet some challenges along the way it’s been good.
Ms Hovard, who was on the board before the Brolga was built and has been chairman since 2004, is also pleased to be staying on.
“I’ll leave when the 2012 local government elections come up because I won’t be running for council again.
“The Brolga has been one of the nicer things for me in recent years and it’s been a privilege to serve on the board.”
Ms Harris said the Brolga was an important part of the community. “It was built with grant funding but in the early stages the community also put money and effort into it.
‘We’ve had a large range of shows and we’re lucky we are so multi-functional.”
Cr Anne Nioa is the deputy chair and Cr Julie Arthur is also on the board.
Ron Murray, council’s former events officer is the Brolga’s manager.
