Brown rapt in Ambers Waltz

RACING: Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Corey Brown believes Ambers Waltz’s last-start defeat has her primed for victory in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

A wide barrier, 17, has done nothing to dampen Brown’s enthusiasm for the John O’Shea-trained filly’s chances in the 1200-metre feature in which she is the $4 favourite with TAB Sportsbet fixed odds.

Last time out Ambers Waltz jumped from the widest alley, 10, at Randwick in December over Saturday’s distance and top Melbourne hoop Damien Oliver elected to take the filly out the back rather than risk being posted three wide into the wind.

Ambers Waltz, who carried 57kg, made up a stack of ground in the run to the line, rocketing home to finish a neck second to Triple Crown.

Ambers Waltz worked nicely under Brown at Randwick on Tuesday.

“She’s absolutely spot-on, John’s got her going beautifully,” Brown said.
