Burn-offs planned for Bogimbah, Ungowa and Garrys Anchorage

SMOKE may be seen in and around the Bogimbah, Ungowa and Garrys Anchorage areas on Fraser Island as the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service conducts planned burns this month.

The burn-offs will happen between August 9 and 31, weather permitting.

QPWS said the aim of the burns was to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas within the park.

The service said it would help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.
