All patients in a stable condition following bus rollover

UPDATE:

A MACKAY Base Hospital spokesperson said seven people were been admitted to the hospital's ward overnight and all are in a stable condition.

 

EARLIER:

SEVENTEEN people have been injured following a bus crash on the Bruce Highway at Alligator Creek, south of Mackay overnight.

Initial information indicates around 12.30am the bus rolled near the intersection of Eversleigh Road.

The 54-year-old male driver and 16 female passengers, aged between 37 and 85 sustained non life-threatening injuries.

A QFRS spokesman said that two elderly people were entrapped in the bus.

"But they were freed fairly quickly with minor injuries," he said.

The driver and 10 of the women were transported to Mackay Base Hospital while a further six women were transported to Sarina Hospital.

The northbound lane of the Bruce Highway has been closed while crews work to remove the bus from the scene this morning.

It is believed that the Bruce Hwy is now clear.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the incident.
