Bushfire under control at Bribie Island
A BUSHFIRE burning throughout the afternoon at Bribie Island has been brought under control as fire crews leave for the night.
The fire broke out about midday at the southern tip of Bribie Island on First Ave, Bongaree.
A Department of Community Safety spokeswoman said that while there was no threat to properties, the blaze caused a large volume of smoke.
Fire patrols will continue through the night and the situation will be re-assessed in the morning.
The fire is burning safely in inaccessible country and is not threatening any homes.
Residents with respiratory illnesses are advised to keep windows and doors closed,remain indoors and keep medication close by.
