Cabbie basher caught on CCTV footage

POLICE have released CCTV footage of a man wanted over the weekend assault of a Hervey Bay taxi driver.

The 35-year-old taxi driver was punched repeatedly in the face during a drop-off at Urangan in the early hours of last Saturday.

Police believe the attacker to be a male passenger that was picked up at Torquay between 2am and 3am.

CCTV footage from inside the cab shows the man wearing a T-shirt with an emblem on the front.

Sergeant Darryn Morris of Hervey Bay police said the passenger was believed to be aged between 25-35, with short fair or brown hair.

He also had a distinctive tattoo sleeve down his right arm which may help somebody identify him to police.

Following the assault, the cab driver was taken to hospital with a number of facial injuries, including a blood nose.

He told police he could not remember the attack.

Sgt Morris urged anyone who recognised the passenger to contact police on 4123 8111 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
