Phones and internet out in Granville due to river cable

AN OUTAGE on Telstra phone and internet services in Granville is not expected to be repaired until at least Friday.

Telstra consumer and country wide area manager Kris Carver said the exact cause of the fault was unknown, but was caused by a cable in the Mary River that began causing issues on Wednesday.

"This is a complex fault and we expect it may take until tomorrow to restore services to our customers," he said.

"We have technicians on site and have specialised equipment on the way to commence repairs."

Mr Carver said Telstra was working with medical priority customers to ensure their service was not disrupted.

He said there was no estimate available on the number of customers affected.

Affected customers can phone 132 200 to divert their landline services to mobile for free.
