Maryborugh teen called up for defence force TV spot

A MARYBOROUGH teen is set to grace television screens across Australia after being named one of four winners of a Fox Sports and Australian Defence Force Academy competition.

Hannah Carmichael, a Year 12 Maryborough High student, will be flown to Canberra this weekend to take part in the "ultimate ADFA experience".

She will spend one day in the life of a cadet, trying her hand at obstacle courses and mental challenges, all the while being tailed by a Fox Sports film crew.

The three-minute promotional clip will be played on all Fox Sports channels over the rest of the rugby season.

"It's a bit nerve-racking to think I'll be on televisions all over Australia, but exciting," Hannah said.

To win the competition, Hannah wrote a short essay on the ADFA values of doing your best, honesty, respect and giving everyone a fair go on the sports field.

"I've played basketball for 12 years so I wrote about the importance of good sportsmanship and helping people up when they fall down," she said.

She said on top of spending the day as a cadet, she would also be going to watch a Super Live Rugby Game with her mum, who was travelling with her.

She said she was considering doing a gap year with the ADFA when she finished high school.
