Fraser Island camp grounds to reopen

FRASER Island camping grounds that were shut in July because of aggressive dingoes are likely to be reopened for the school holidays.

Department of National Parks regional director Peter Wright said the Govi, Wongai and One Tree Rocks camping zones had been closed.

The camping grounds are on the eastern beach of Fraser Island in the vicinity of Eurong and Dilli Village.

"A recent assessment by QPWS shows risks in this area have since lessened and it is intended to have the camping zones reopened for the coming school holidays," Mr Wright said.

"There will be increased ranger patrols and dingo monitoring in these locations during this time."
