Car catches on fire

FIREFIGHTERS in Childers used breathing apparatus while controlling a blaze that incinerated a Toyota Camry yesterday morning.

Urban Fire Brigade personnel used foam and water to extinguish the blaze, but the vehicle was well alight before they arrived at the scene on the Childers Road about 5km north of Apple Tree Creek.

A man in his late 50s had been driving towards Childers when he saw smoke billowing from under the bonnet.

His vehicle swerved suddenly on to the wrong side of the road before he could pull up on the dirt shoulder.

Sole occupant of the vehicle, the man escaped without injury.

Childers police are continuing their inquiries into the matter.
