Car park shortage in question

“APPALLING” parking facilities surrounding Hervey Bay's WetSide are under investigation by the council.

In response to Chronicle editor Peter Chapman's comment piece in last Wednesday's edition of the paper, the council says it is monitoring the park.

“The council and Wide Bay Water are continuing to monitor parking at WetSide Water Education Park and the need for overflow car parking spaces,” a spokesman said yesterday.

“The investigation includes current use patterns as well as identifying possible locations and designs of grassed overflow car parks on the Seafront Oval similar to those installed at the recently revamped Gatakers Bay Boat ramp.”

Mr Chapman wrote his editorial in response to calls from Chronicle readers.

“You can't allow a $13 million facility to be hamstrung because people have to walk kilometres to get to it in the heat of the day,” he wrote in his editorial.

“The council reminds people using the water park that paved car park spaces are available on the Seafront Oval extension,” the council spokesman added.
