Two Hervey Bay men charged over car fire at Howard

UPDATE: TWO brothers from Hervey Bay will appear in court after allegedly setting fire to their car at Howard on Saturday.

Senior Constable Dave Weber said the men, aged 19 and 24, had been charged with more than a dozen offences between them.

The 24-year-old is in police custody and will appear in court on Monday but the 19-year-old has been released on bail to appear in court next month.

EARLIER: POLICE and ambulance were on the scene of a burnt car on Government Rd outside Howard on Saturday about noon.

There are unconfirmed reports that two offenders set their car on fire and fled into the bush.

Witness Col Ferguson lives on a property adjacent to the scene and told the Chronicle police stopped him and his wife in their car while the situation unfolded.

Mr Ferguson said he saw two alleged offenders get out of their car, douse it in petrol and set it on fire.

He said police chased them into the surrounding bush on foot.

It is believed the dog squad was called to the scene.
