CareFlight nurse takes selfie with brave girl mid flight
RACQ CareFlight Rescue's nurse Emily Ragus was more than happy to snap a selfie in the skies above Hervey Bay to help mark a brave young girl's first flight in a helicopter.
The 14-year-old was flown in a stable condition from Hervey Bay Hospital to Lady Cilento Children's Hospital for specialised care in Brisbane on Monday.
Emily said there was a special bond between the girl, who has an ongoing medical condition, and her mother, as they nervously boarded the helicopter.
"The pilots helped (me) calm her down…helped her feel a lot more comfortable in the aircraft," Emily said.
Emily took the selfie of herself and the young girl mid flight after being asked by the mother.
During the flight, the girl's mum held her hand as they comforted each other while Emily monitored her pain levels with ongoing observations in the air.
"Due to the noise of the aircraft you can't hear anything, your senses are distorted," Emily said.
Emily said the girl and her mother were a pleasure to have on board and they had a "beautiful relationship."
"She was in a lot of pain and she dealt with it quite well," Emily said.
Emily, who works all over Queensland, said Hervey Bay was one of the most common areas CareFlight flew to
