Caretaker's caravan is gutted by fire after he steals $2000

THE caretaker of a local golf course stole money and alcohol while living on site.

John Edward Mills, 35, was living in a caravan at the Eagles Nest Golf Club in Urangan on January 22 when he entered the shop.

The Hervey Bay Magistrates Court heard Mills and another person opened a hidden safe and stole $2000.

That night Mills' caravan was gutted by fire after an electrical fault.

Mills was fined $500 and sentenced to 18 months probation.
