Casey loves her daily grind
A STEAMING hot chocolate and peppermint-flavoured latte, dusted with sprinkles and topped with a fresh mint leaf.
Does the Mocha Mintte' sound like a yummy coffee to you?
It did to barista Casey Herbener and after spending countless hours perfecting the drink, the former Maryborough resident has taken out the signature drink category at the Coffee Club International Barista of the Year Competition.
Ms Herbener, 25, has been working on and off as a barista since she finished school at Maryborough High.
She is duty manager at a Perth Coffee Club store and was one of six finalists hand-picked from 600 entrants to compete for the international title on October 24.
“We had 10 minutes to serve four espresso-based drinks and our signature drinks,” she said.
“I called mine Mocha Mintte' - it's a peppermint chocolate-flavoured latte that's not too overpowering. If you wanted to drink it every day you could.”
She was awarded first prize for her signature drink and now Mocha Mintte' will be served in every Coffee Club in Australia and New Zealand for a limited time.
She received first runner up overall and won a $1500 travel voucher from Flight Centre.
Ms Herbener said the secret to a great coffee was all in the grind.
“You have to know about the grinder. If you can get the grind of your coffee spot on then you should have a good coffee.”
