Cattle prices come down on previous highs

AT LAST Saturday's Lismore store cattle sale 460 head were sold.

Most classes showed a decline in price when compared to the highs of two months ago.

Grower steers topped $2.72/kg, $1197, weaner steers ranged from $2.80 to $3.20/kg based on quality.

A good line of preg-tested in-calf heifers topped at $1660 for Santa x Hereford x Charbrays.

Cows and calves topped at $1920 for two Angus cows with big calves at foot but generally $1350 to $1600 was the range.

A good quality yarding of 320 vealers and 60 grown cattle were yarded.

Vealers sold on a par with last week, most selling in the $2.75 to $2.90/kg range.

Once again good quality weaners sold well with European and Angus selling up to $3.28 for lightweight and up to $3.15 for those weighing above 280kg.

Meatworks cows sold 5 to 10c/kg cheaper than last week.

Heavy cows sold from $2.00 to $2.20/kg. A line of bullocks off Nimbin sold for $2.46/kg, $1624.
