Cavaliers to open new Fraser Coast season at the Bay

CRICKET: Two hyper-local derbies will mark the return of Fraser Coast Cricket's combined competitions.

Hervey Bay and Maryborough held their own cricket competitions last year, but after just one season apart the parties have again joined forces for a two-tier competition.

A four-team A-grade competition will be held between Hervey Bay clubs Cavaliers and Bushrangers, and Maryborough's Australs and Past Grammars, with the first fixtures to be held on Saturday.

Cavaliers will face local rivals Bushrangers at Allan Embrey Oval, Urangan, while Australs face Past Grammars in Maryborough.

Both 40-over games are rematches of last year's local grand finals, and mark the arrival of summer sport on the Fraser Coast.

Reserve grade starts on October 13.

Games start at 12.30pm.
