Celebrate Year of the Tiger

MEMORIES of New Year celebrations may be fading by now for some Fraser Coast residents but others are just warming up in the lead-up to Chinese New Year celebrations across the region.

According to Chinese tradition, 2010 is the Year of the Tiger.

The Maryborough Neighbourhood Centre is hosting a lunch today so those wanting to celebrate the Chinese New Year can get together with like-minded people.

But it’s not just people of Chinese origin who are invited.

Anyone interested in learning about different cultures can come along for the free lunch and to meet new people.

The event is being organised by Rowena Allen, who co-ordinates the Migrant Settlement Program in our region.

The program offers new arrivals a variety of courses to help them settle into life in Australia.

To book a place at the lunch phone 4124 2737.

It starts at 11.30am at the Neighbourhood Centre in Ellena Street, Maryborough.
