Chronicle's Facebook page inundated with photos of cakes
THE Fraser Coast could very well be renamed the Baker Coast given the enormous pool of talented cooks we have here.
More than 290 creative folk flooded the Chronicle's Facebook page after we asked people to share photos of their sweet masterpieces.
Jade Schliebs has baked some unique cakes over the years and one she is proud of is a beer-themed cake she baked for her partner's 41st birthday recently.
Ms Schliebs took two days to make the chocolate mud cake which was a challenge but was worth it, she said.
She said baking had been her passion for 10 years and cooked often with the hope of opening her own bakery in the future.
Shirlee Faint laboured for three long hours just to decorate her hamburger cake for her friend Zane.
Ms Faint said the fun part was making the pattie and chips.
"I made the pattie from rice crispies and marshmallow dipped in chocolate, the cheese was melted sun burst chews and the chips were made from marzipan and food colouring," she said.
Kristin Stowers put a lot of heart and soul into baking a Nemo cake for her son's second birthday.
"It took me two days to make the cake toppers. I used fondant, edible decorating glue and food colouring," she said.
