Chance to challenge childhood hero

AFTER taming his former team the Brisbane Heat, star Hobart all-rounder Dan Christian has turned his attention to performing against idol Jacques Kallis.

The Hurricanes will host Kallis' unbeaten Sydney Thunder at Blundstone Arena tonight in a tantalising Big Bash League clash.

The 40-year-old South African is regarded as one of cricket's the greatest all-rounders of all time after a Test career that produced 13,289 runs and 292 wickets.

He has performed strongly in his team's three victories in this summer's BBL, but Christian (pictured) is also high on confidence after blasting 56 not out from just 24 balls against the Heat in the Hurricanes' 15-run win on Tuesday night.

That included a 117m six off paceman Luke Feldman which ended up on the Gabba roof, one of the bigger hits seen at the ground.

"He (Kallis) was someone I looked up to as a kid. He's still doing a fantastic job with the bat, and still bowling 135-140 kmh with the ball," Christian told APN.

He admitted it was a sweet feeling to beat his former team which cut him after he took 24 wickets and averaged 11.28 with the bat last season.

"It was a little bit (disappointing) at the time. I really enjoyed my four years I had up there, but the Hurricanes have been fantastic," he said.

The Thunder attack, including Andre Russell (seven wickets) and Clint McKay (five) is set for an intriguing battle against star Hobart batsmen Kumar Sangakkara, George Bailey, Tim Paine and Ben Dunk.
