Check your heater and use it properly: fire officer

FRASER Coast residents have been warned to ensure safety is their top priority as they start to turn on their heaters as the temperature drops for winter.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service North Coast Region assistant commissioner John Watson said each winter, too many fires started from heaters and other electrical goods being not properly maintained or misused.

"Last year, around 40 residential structure fires were caused by faulty or poorly maintained heating equipment in Queensland during June, July and August," he said.
