Child-sex offender in jail

CONVICTED sex offender David Leslie Wharton is back behind bars after being arrested by the Queensland Police Service on January 1.

On December 22 the Court of Appeal ordered Wharton to serve another four-and-a-half months of a suspended jail term imposed on him for the indecent treatment of several boys.

The 68-year-old was not arrested on December 22, however, and was instead allowed to celebrate Christmas a free man.

Wharton, a retired Maryborough school teacher, abused three boys on camping trips between 2004 and 2008.

He was already a convicted paedophile after pleading guilty in 2008 to the indecent treatment of a teenage boy 20 years before.
