Childers recognised for recovery

CHILDERS will feature on a new website which will recognise the town’s recovery from the fatal Palace Backpackers Hostel fire 10 years ago.

The National Rural Women’s Coalition is launching a Sustainable Communities website in March and the Childers story will feature as one of eight communities that have rebuilt after disaster.

NRWC spokeswoman Karen Tulley says the story will be used to guide other struggling communities.

“Childers is fully functioning as a vibrant community that has risen from the ashes of a dreadful tragedy and the impact of this on the businesses in the town,” she said.
