Climate protesters bring train to standstill

TWO climate protestors have climbed aboard a coal train at Wynnum, blocking coal exports from the New Hope Brisbane Coal Terminal.

The pair - Jack, 22, and Spoons, 20, climbed onto the Aurizon-owned coal train this morning.

The pair - one of whom is a member of Extinction Rebellion, the group responsible for several chaos causing protests in Brisbane City - is protesting the country's coal export and fossil fuel industry's operation "despite unprecedented fires which rage worldwide as a result of climate change".

"There is no time for climate change denial," Spoons said.

"Communities are already facing the catastrophic effects of climate collapse.

"If we don't take action now, all hopes of passing on a habitable home for future generations will be lost.

"I refuse to watch the world burn and sit idle as the government continues to stay silent."

Extinction Rebellion SEQ is expecting thousands to rebel on the December 13 to shut down Brisbane's Go Between Bridge, which the group says is the most expensive toll bridge per kilometre in the world.

They say "ecological collapse is unavoidable as long as business as usual continues- it's time to shut it down again".

"I am scared, I am scared for my future, for the future of my little brothers. " Spoons said.
