Clive Palmer grounded as liquidators come for his plane

CLIVE Palmer's $5 million private plane will be the subject of a Supreme Court trial today as legal pressure mounts on the beleaguered resources tycoon.

Queensland Nickel's liquidators have had the Cessna Citation X impounded at a Gold Coast Airport hangar for more than a year while a court battle is ongoing over the ownership of the plane.

The former Sunshine Coast MP asserts he is the true owner of the plane, but liquidators want a court to decide after unearthing evidence that allegedly shows that Palmer purported to buy the plane from QNI in 2012, but no money changed hands.

The trial is set down for two days starting today, and comes despite an attempt to delay it last week that was criticised by Justice John Bond and lawyers for QNI's liquidators.

Last week, a judge in a separate case involving Mr Palmer's flagship company Mineralogy said there was a "recurring theme" of applications to adjourn the case in the lead-up to trial.

The former politician will next week fight an application to freeze his assets in yet another case involving QNI, which collapsed last January with $300 million in debts and 800 job losses.
