Woodcraft open day turns heads

SATURDAY was one of the best open days the Hervey Bay Woodcrafters Club has held in many years, according to secretary treasurer Lex Garner.

“It was a really good day," he said.

“At least 10 people that I know of have made inquiries about joining.

“It was one of the best sessions for the amount of people we’ve had in years.”

The open day was held at the Arts and Crafts Village in Bideford Street, Torquay, from 9am.

There were plenty of demonstrations to check out including a wood segmenting session, how to use a drum sander and a scroll saw, wood burning and carving.

But the day was not just about wood and products made from it.

The Hervey Bay City Musicians also entertained visitors while the Hervey Bay Spinners and Weavers displayed various items including quilts and dolls.

People could take home some treats with wooden toy trucks, trains and bowls which were just a few of the goodies.

It was a great day out with raffles, a sausage sizzle, steak sandwiches, cold drinks and tea and coffee available.
