Coast has best chooks in state
IF POULTRY enthusiasts were treated like rock stars - the Fraser Coast would have rolled out its red carpet and welcomed home royalty after this year's Ekka.
The Maryborough Hervey Bay Poultry Club claimed the top gong for the eightth occasion in 10 years.
Individually its members won more ribbons and trophies than Michael Phelps would competing at an outback swimming meet.
Maryborough couple Geoff and Sandra Edards led the way, bringing home 14 rosettes and seven trophies in a performance that revealed how close their chooks are getting to genetic perfection.
Ms Edards said the trick was good blood lines. She said that is how a real champion's produced.
"We've both been breeding for over 40 years. My Dad showed poultry and so did Geoff's, actually that is how we met," Ms Edards said.
"We've always done everything together; it's good that we have that."
