Coast riders in the zone at dressage challenge

THE talented riders of the Fraser Coast again did themselves proud on the weekend.

Competing for Zone 7, eight riders travelled to contest the team championships at Southport.

One team competed in the 12 and under competition and the other in the 13-17 years competition.

Both teams did very well against some high quality competition.

The 12 and under team, including Alice Leighton, Brittany Clark, Mikhaela Roos and Shania Kleidon, came fourth overall after placing seventh and second in the two tests competing against 11 other teams.

The 13-17 years riders also competed strongly in their division.

Out of 15 teams the Zone 7 team place fifth and third, giving them an overall placing of third.

The team included Jackie Fewin, Deziree Roos, Rhiannon Turner and Louise Venz.

The Roulettes display and the F111 flyover disrupted competition on the day as events were halted to ensure the safety of riders and horses but the teams handled the conditions well.

The two teams were pleased with their efforts, especially considering that for five of the girls it was their first Zone teams dressage challenge.

The teams are already being planned for next year's Zone competition.
