Convicted con man delaying court
THEY say a leopard can't change his spots.
This could prove true for convicted con artist Zane Rene Cook, who seemed to be up to his old tricks in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court.
Cook, who is serving a jail sentence for selling a stolen boat on eBay, is known for deliberately delaying court proceedings by sacking his lawyers and changing his pleas.
Last week the Toogoom man appeared on 14 charges including fraud, stealing, receiving tainted property and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and he once again requested an adjournment from Magistrate Graeme Tatnell.
Cook said he wasn't able to proceed without a lawyer and told the court he was also trying to cut a "deal" with the prosecution to have some of the charges dropped.
"I'm pretty sure if you put it down for another week, I should have it sorted out by then," Cook said.
"Always hopeful, Mr Cook," was Mr Tatnell's response.
Cook is currently serving a two-and-a-half year jail term for fraud and two counts of unlawful possession of a motor vehicle.
He was convicted of the crimes in the Brisbane District Court last month.
