Councillor Rolf Light swaps shirt and tie for shovel

COUNCILLOR Rolf Light has spent a day pushing wheelbarrows, shovelling gravel and installing kerbing.

The Division 5 representative traded in his suit and tie for fluorescent shirt and boots as part of a job swap.

He said the day on site helped him get a better handle on some of the services the council provided and how they were delivered.

"It was really beneficial to see what goes into making something and how the guys do their job to get something done," Cr Light said.

"I had a ball there - we actually put in some kerb and channel and it really helped me to appreciate the extent of the job - it's not as easy as what people might think."

Cr Light said he spent a day on job swap with the same road crew last year and enjoyed it so much he had to go back.

He said job swaps could be a good idea in many types of industries and workplaces.
