Councillors in drag for Variety Old Bags fundraising lunch

THERE will be two special guests at the Variety Old Bags lunch on March 9 - honorary "women" Robert Garland and Stuart Taylor.

Although the fundraising event is aimed at ladies who love to lunch, the two Fraser Coast councillors did not want to miss their chance to help charity, and plan to doll themselves up for the occasion.

"The day is going to be a bit of fun in this difficult time with the weather, and we wanted to support a good cause," Cr Garland said.

Cr Garland and Cr Stuart had makeovers at Summer Jade beauty salon on Wednesday in readiness for the big day.

The event, at Peppers Pier Resort, will allow women to bring their old handbags which will be donated to the Endeavour Foundation, and go home with a brand new one.

The ladies can buy, bid, win, bribe and steal to get a new handbag before the lunch is over, and some handbags will have extra special treats in them such as pampering packages and even holiday vouchers.

Tickets are $70 and include a two-course lunch, entertainment and wines. Corporate tables are also available. Money raised will help children's charity Variety.
