Country tune keeps cattle calm

IT CAN be nervous work parading cattle in front of the judges - even for the most experienced competitor.

But 15-year-old handler Jade Mann has found a sure-fire method to keep the anxiety away.

She sings.

"I find it helps calm me down, which helps keep her calm,” Jade said, indicating to heifer Dance Westrnxpress, who had just placed second in the angus heifer 14 months and under 16 months division.

US country singer Luke Bryan's hit Kick up the Dust was her tune of choice during the Ekka.

Jade has been parading cattle for about three years, and said she found heifers, at times, more difficult to work with than bulls.
