Court: Man, 55, punched woman so hard broke sternum

A 55-YEAR-OLD man has been found not guilty of raping a woman at the Tattersalls Hotel in Maryborough in January 2013.

It took the jury of six men and six women about 40 minutes to deliver the verdict after a three day trial in the Maryborough District Court.

Colin James Cooper, of Gin Gin, on Monday pleaded guilty to punching the same woman in the chest so hard he broke her sternum.

Cooper is expected to be sentenced for the assault on Thursday.
